Although it may not be majority of players, competitive tournament of PvP is undeniably what drives and makes dTCG/dCCG alive and evolve. In order to attract, top skill players, the game need incentives to attract Pro TCG/CCG players. What incentive is better than a cash? HEX has already proven that they are serious about PvP with earlier year $40,000 invitational tournament. But now they are hosting seasonal tournament with real cash prizes. What’s really great here is that they have tied this tournament with recently introduced ladder system.
COSMIC CROWN SHOWDOWN ANNOUNCEMENT
Aug 3, 2016
We are excited to announce our Cosmic Crown Showdown! In this event, the best ladder players of the season will duke it out for glory, prizes, and a pool of $5,000 cash from the comfort of their own homes!
Here’s how it works:
The top 64 players on each Ladder (constructed and limited) at the end of this season will get a ladder ticket that allows them to participate in this season’s Cosmic Crown Showdown. The showdown is broken up into two Stages which will take place on Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th. The tournament will be held in-client under the “Special” tab of the tournament screen.

5th-8th Place: $250

Ladder system introduction seemed to give a potential chance for more players to play constructed and perhaps limited format. However, the downside was those players who reach to Cosmic Tier have essentially no incentives beyond reaching to the Cosmic. This means those players who are probably most hardcore/top skilled players lose incentives to play (of course other than just having fun).
The introduction of Cosmic Crown gives meaning to Cosmic tier ranking and incentive to play after reaching to cosmic. The prize pool of $5000 for each season (2 months) is far from calling the biggest prize, but considering the size of game, I think it is a great start.
Though personally, I still feel they need to still bring back Construct Gauntlet outside of this.
What do you think?
