The game itself is Beta status though they have had several expansions already.  However, the android client is now available as early alpha status i.e. still early stage of development so bugs are expected and perhaps some of the functionality may be missing in comparison to the desktop version.  Despite all these warning, it seems to work.

One of the major feature that HEX is trying to set itself apart from other dTCGs are its campaign mode i.e. PvE.  It is hard to deny everything is concidental such that since the strong success of the HEX’s kickstarter, suddenly many dTCGs (pre-existed and new ones) are putting emphasis on the PvE aspect as well.  Now unfortunately, the PvE component of the game is still not here with us, and nothing ground breaking here.  In fact, it is perhaps just a PvE of what some other games claims as “single campaign mode”, but nonetheless, HEX is getting some starter deck challenge mode very soon.

Well so far, I have been trying to address the similarities between the two games and contrast to see if there is enough difference.  But today, let’s just simply look at part of the game that is fundamentally different.  HEX uses Champion as a representation of player.  This system not only provide every once and a while special power usage, but much more potential in the overall game play.  This is well demonstrated in the special type of Champion card, which is available in the PvE mode.

What truly defines the TCG is the individual card mechanics.  No matter how good the general design appears if individual pieces that you actually play are mediocre, that becomes the bottleneck and your experience would be limited by it.  Let’s compare and contrast HEX and Magic in regards to this topic.
